HOPE society raises gynecological awareness in Nepal

Published on 07 September 2022

From 23 August to 5 September 2022, four SKEMA students from the HOPE Paris association will be in Nepal to raise awareness among young Nepalese women about gynaecological disorders and menstrual precariousness. This action will be accompanied by distribution of sanitary products.

Discussions in schools

The students will start their journey from Kathmandu, where they will distribute menstrual pads at Bikash Basic School and talk to the school children. "In August 2019, I made a humanitarian trip to Nepal.

This project is close to my heart because I believe giving women safe and effective knowledge and solutions could end the humiliation that has been imposed on them for far too long. When I was confronted by a woman who told me she was 'poisoned' and did not want to touch me for fear of hurting me, it was unthinkable for me to go back home and do nothing," explains Sarah Ben Bouazza, a student in her third year of the Master in Management (PGE) programme on the Grand Paris campus and a member of the international section of the HOPE association.

After that, their journey will take them to Saldum, a village north-west of Kathmandu, where they will interact with students at a learning centre. To prepare for their interactions with the local population, the students have taken care to talk to a Nepalese gynaecologist before their trip. This is a way for them to get to know Nepal's customs and culture better.

Committed partners

To obtain support for their project, the students formed partnerships with menstrual pad brands Dianina and Femili, as well as Toboro, a startup specialising in the rental of everyday objects between individuals. After their expedition to Nepal, the students plan to present the results of their action through a sociological analysis and a documentary.
